How many times do you get distracted from your work every day? 5 times? 10 times? 20 times? or more? If you are like most people, you might get distracted a lot and tend to procrastinate. It is very easy to do and we all seem to be pretty good at it .
The trick is to figure out where you waste your time and then figure out how to eliminate some of them. Here are some things to think about where you waste your time:
1. Surfing the web
3. Coffee Breaks
4. Unintended phone calls
6. Playing Video Games
7. Computer Games
8. Checking email
10. Lack of organization
12. Taking too many breaks
So, where do you waste your time? Do you spend a lot of time doing any of these things? Now, its alright to do most of these things as long as it is in moderation and does not control your life and keep you from being productive. The best way to eliminate these time wasters is to be aware that you are spending time doing them. So many people don’t even realize that they are doings these things and wonder where the day went!
Here are some things that have worked for me as well as other people I know that help you become more productive:
1. make a list and tally every time you get distracted
2.turn off your cell phone/texting
3. turn off your email notifications
4. turn off your internet so you can focus on the work at hand-one of my favorites!
5. make a sign to let others know not to bother you
6. set a timer and work for a set time before you do anything else
7. set a timer for your “breaks” to make sure these “breaks” don’t turn into hours!
8. change your environment and make sure it is free of distractions
9. clean off your desk to make it clear of distractions
Try some of these things and see how they work for you. I would bet that if you implemented just a few of these things into your routine everyday, you would find more time in your day and be more productive.
